Reflection on meeting

Reflection on meeting

Place : ADMC - M06
Date : 25/June/2012
Present :
Chairman : Mohammad Shams
Secretary : Hassan
Participant : Omar , Ahmad

The chair Mohammad Shams opened the meeting by introducing every member to each other and described the agenda of the discussion that's going to take place in M06 under the supervision of Mr. Hedley Butterfield.

The topic that we wanted to find solution for is traffic congestion in Abu Dhabi.

The first thing that was assigned in the agenda was talking about how serious is the problem. Mohammad Shams as the director started by giving his opinion by saying that the problem is very serious and it can get bigger because the number of cars on the road is increasing and the number of roads isn’t; we all agreed to him and I also added my opinion by saying this is a problem, and this problem needs to be solved before it gets bigger and we need to contain it as soon as possible. Hassan was writing the main points of what we said.

Afterward in the agenda, it was time for discussing the solution of the problems and the main solutions were:

Improving the existing traffic system, Improving parking, controlling traffic lights in a more efficient way, raising the age of driving license holders and public transport.

After discussing between each other about this solution, every individual of us stated what the most effective solution in his opinion is.

I said fixing the roads and building bridges is the most effective way to solve the traffic congestion problem, because that way we will provide more roads for the drivers, but it needs to be done in a short time so it can be an efficient strategy.

Hassan said that the best solution is to organize traffic lights properly; some agreed but I didn’t because I thought that not all streets have traffic lights, so this solution will only work in certain places. سخ only work in certain places .e traffic lights , so this solution will only work in certain places .

oblem , because that way

Ahmed stated that the best solution is to restrict driving for people younger than 25 years old. Mohammad Shams disagreed with this idea because he thought that people at the age of 18 work; they definitely need a car to get them to their work, and I agreed more because in our culture, a lot of people around that age can get married; then afterwards Ahmed changed his opinion and said it's better if we educate the drivers.

Mohammad Shams agreed with my opinion because he saw how the roads in Japan are not as busy as in Abu Dhabi even though they have more cars, and that’s all because the design of roads there is better and building bridges helped them a lot.

In conclusion, the four of us contributed efficiently to this meeting; it was well organized and had a lot of great solutions since most of us saw other countries and saw how their roads are more developed than ours; the meeting ran smoothly because the chairman directed the meeting in a professional way.

Traffic Congestion Meeting Minutes:

Mohamed Shams called the meeting in order to discuss the above agenda and he started it by reminding us how serious this problem is.

· Traffic Distribution should be more organized to avoid conflicts, accidents and congestion. Building more bridges and tunnels is one of the ideal solutions for the problems that we discussedFive years ago, the situation was better because the traffic signals were fewer than now. The population is increasing, therefore one of the solutions is to give more houses and residences outside the city (Khalifa City, Mohamed Bin Zayed City, Al Shawamkh City). Relocate the work offices and move them outside the city to avoid the congestion in rush hours.

· The roads must be renovated perfectly and well distributed. Closing a whole road suddenly might lead to more traffic congestion and accidents. Therefore, providing an alternative road is an important solution. Making a straight long bridge over the whole city with small exits to the areas and blocks is a good idea. Building underground parking is one of the most brilliant ideas which allows us to get benefits and saves us a lot of time and space.

· Synchronize traffic lights and fix the technical problems to avoid accidents. Build an expansion for the streets, specially the highways.

· Provide more alternative vehicles like public transportation e.g. buses, trains and trams, will reduce the capacity of the cars on the roads. Provide traffic awareness for the drivers to deal with these kinds of problem so they can help us to save time. Lecturing and tutoring the drivers before they get the license about these kinds of problems.

Mohamed Shams Closed the Meeting on 16:40.
